Hancock family, c. 1929
Judge John C. Hancock, wife Mamie Hancock, son Fred Hancock and his wife Billie Hancock.
The older Hancocks arrived in Stuart in 1902, living on Atlanta Avenue, then removed to Jacksonville for their son's schooling before returning to Stuart before 1913. John C. Hancock was a justice of the peace, pineapple farmer, and opened Hancock Insurance Agency. The Hancock family were instrumental in establishing the Lyric Theatre. Mamie Hancock played piano there and also gave music lessons.Tags Judges -

Parks, Sr. (front right) in a wheelbarrow to settle a bet he lost about the election for governor. -

The art deco style building was first built in 1938 for the Citizens Bank of Stuart (later First National Bank of Stuart). The building was expanded on the left in 1949. The building was renovated in the 1990s and became the Jolly Sailor Pub in 1992. Duffy's Sport Grill replaced The Jolly Sailor in 2003 and as of 2026, continues to occupy the building at this location. -

The Abundance statue and Haney Circle in downtown Stuart. Coffee & Sweets Co. in the background. Coffee & Sweets Co. operated at 7 East Osceola Street from around 1994 through the early 2000s. As of 2026, a Thai and sushi restaurant occupies the building. In the background on the left is Damiano's Under a Hot Tin Roof, a restaurant serving transcontinental cuisine. As of 2026, the building at 18 Seminole Street is occupied by an Italian bistro. -
