Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, US Life-saving Service, with the caption: "George Quarterman stands in front of the former Chester Shoal House of Refuge when it was US Coast Guard Station No. 204. He took charge after his uncle Orlando Quarterman's retirement. Orlando was the only keeper of Chester Shoal House of Refuge. Both he and George's father, William George Quarterman, married sisters who were the daughters of Mills Olcott Burnham, keeper of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse."
