Description

Concrete bridge built in 1923 over the south fork of the St. Lucie River on what was the Stuart-Annie Road, then Gaines Highway. The Gaines Highway Bridge is open only to pedestrians in 2026. Also known as the Humpback Bridge.

Recorded in the Florida Photographic Concern Record Book #2 (PDF p. 37) as "9494=6 Lyons Views South Fork, Stuart, L." 3 December 1925.

Photograph commissioned by local realtor, Harry Lyons, who along with his real estate partners Scott Atkin and Don Innes, formed a committee to plan the Martin County birthday festival, held in January 1926.
