Vast planting of pineapples covered by a shed. Postmarked in Hemlock, New York on August 15, 1922. Message written to Leatha Worde in Toledo, Ohio from "Jennie." -

Back caption reads "In 1876, then Houses of Refuge were built along the eastern seaboard. This is the last House of Refuge still standing. Originally for the refuge of seamen in distress, it served as a submarine watch tower during World War II and now is an historical museum and center for the propagation and study of giant sea turtles indigenous to this coast. Back caption reads "In 1917, Okeechobee County was formed from parts of Palm Beach, St. Lucie, and Osceola counties. Construction of the courthouse began in 1926 and was completed, at an estimated coast of $200,000, shortly before the major hurricane of 1928. After the storm, National Guardsman camping on the courthouse lawn used the courthouse as emergency storage for the caskets of hurricane victims, including seven unidentified bodies. Today, this bower of Cuban laurel forms a natural canopy above the roadway, creating one of the most picturesque spots in Martin County. Back caption reads "Using natural cypress and pieces of lumber from buildings devastated during the 1935 hurricane, area pioneer Waldo Sexton built what is now the scenic Driftwood Inn. A collector by nature, Sexton became especially known for his vast accumulation of bells, which reputedly included a bell used by Harriet Beecher Stowe to call her workers. As Vero Beach grew, Sexton donated many of his bells to the newly-built churches.
