Description
William J. "Fingy" Conners (1857-1929), originally from Buffalo, New York, Conners was a developer in Buffalo and West Palm Beach. In Florida, he is known for building Conners Highway (U.S. 441), the first road between West Palm Beach and Okeechobee. He also was central in the development of the Everglades and Okeechobee, was a vice president of the Southern Sugar Company, chairman of the Great Lakes Transit Corporation, and publisher of the Buffalo Courier Express. Published in the Stuart Chamber of Commerce booklet, "Agriculture in Martin County" in 1926.
