Description
Stuart police officer, Leroy Washington, stands wearing a uniform in a dirt field. Washington was one of the first two black officers (along with James Hall) appointed to the Stuart police force in 1956. Washington became the first black Captain of the Stuart police department and was later promoted to Deputy Chief of Police.
