Title
Judge John B. Adams and daughter Cornelia, c. 1923
Description
Judge John B. Adams (1838-1924) came to Florida from Evanston, Illinois. In 1906, he came to Stuart due to ill health and in 1908 became the justice of the peace of Stuart and in 1910, county judge, resigning in 1914. Ernie Lyons mentioned him frequently in his columns, describing him as Stuart's first naturalist, an atheist (and member of the Presbyterian Church) with an extensive taxidermy collection. He lived in a small frame cottage, Mango Lodge, on Frazier Creek, near the intersection of West Fifth and US 1. Daughter Cornelia Belden Adams taught in Chicago schools and wintered in Stuart later in life.
