Item
Title
Virginia Forrest with a juvenile eagle, 1965
Description
Virginia Forrest was instrumental in efforts to save the bald eagle, which was an endangered species until 1994. She worked to strengthen Florida laws protecting eagles, and it became the model for a new federal law. She was also involved in historic preservation efforts. In 1976, Florida Audubon Society named her "Bald Eagle Person of the Year," and Martin County set aside January 15, 1976 as "Virginia Forrest Day" in her honor.
