Higbee Electric, 1953
Higbee Electric before their grand opening in this new building at 327 Osceola Avenue. Ed Higbee opened Higbee Electric in Palm City in 1949 and moved into Stuart in about 1951. On 31 Jan 1953, the store celebrated the grand opening at this new location. Published in the Stuart News (29 Jan 1953). -

Kitching & Eckess store, c. 1923

The store opened in March 1922 as the Kitching & Eckess "Big Store." In 1926, it had a facade added that featured a balcony. In 1933 it became the Ben F. Eckess Department Store, and in 1938 it became the Stuart Department Store, which later was added onto next door. In 1955, it was remodeled and became Stuart City Hall. It was torn down in 1974.
