John Sorensen, Jensen postmaster, c. 1895
John Sorensen V (1845-1915), the first postmaster of Jensen. While he originally applied for the name "Naples" for the post office, his request was rejected since the Naples on the west coast had been established in 1888. From 12 March 1890 until 1 April 1890, the post office was listed as being named Sorensen, when he changed it to Jensen, his wife's maiden name.
Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, Historic Jensen and Eden on Florida's Indian River (p. 55), with the caption: "This photograph of John Sorensen was found by his grandson Harry J. Schultz and presented to Jensen Beach Postmaster Ray Lorenz by Congressman Paul Rogers on October 29, 1958. It is displayed in the Jensen Beach Post Office beside a desk that belonged to John Sorensen when he was Postmaster."Tags Postmasters -

Published in the Stuart News (8 Jan 1959) with caption " 'Dial Stamps.' Three thousand 'sixes' are purchased by R. T. Mason, Southern Bell Traffic Supervisor from West Palm Beach, from postmaster Joseph Penrod. Carl Fremaux, local telephone manager, holds a sample of the dial instruction books that are to be mailed to all Stuart telephone subscribers." -
