Published in the Stuart News (1 Sep 1955) with caption: "A Memory Of The Old South Squeezes Through Rail Draw. The 87-ft. Memphis Queen is shown as she eased through the railroad bridge draw here Friday morning en route to a brief stay at Gulf Marine Service's dock. Reminiscent of the old South, the stern-wheeler is reputed to have been built in 1840, rebuilt in '28 and will be remodeled in Miami this winter."
Description written on back of photo reads "F. E. C. [Railroad] Bridge looking north from draw bridge tender, Fred Black, home." Fred Black served as the draw bridge operator in Stuart for many years. Fred Black was also a local fisherman of note and the father of this collection's donor, Virginius Black.
