Ernie Lyons and a mobile bookstore, c. 1927
The Vagabond Book Shop was created in 1928 by Frank Collins in Los Angeles. It was built from a Reo Speed wagon and accommodated 1200 books and a small apartment. In 1929, Collins moved the vehicle to San Clemente, where Ernie Lyons managed the shop. Harry Lyons and family lived in California between April 1928 and February 1931. -

According to A History of the Martin County Library System, by Luann Justak and Nina Taylor, the trailer served a mobile library for Hobe Sound and Indiantown in the 1980s. The mobile library unit would be parked in each community for two weeks every month. A library branch opened in Hobe Sound and Indiantown in 1984 and 1990 respectively. -
