Danforth Hotel, c. 1903
Large building with wrap around porches on first and second floors. When Sarah Danforth died in 1901, Hubert Wilbur Bessey (1855-1918) and his wife, former schoolteacher Susan Corbin Bessey (1868-1954), were invited to take over the Danforth Hotel. Hubert Bessey led fishing trips, which were enjoyed by Grover Cleveland, who visited and stayed the hotel frequently. Duplicate of HSMC-2023-018-2-b1-067.Tags Hotels -

Large building with wrap around porches on first and second floors, several people on the porch. At right are Frances Cleveland, husband and former president Grover Cleveland. Seated on the porch steps are (on right) Joseph Bryant (Cleveland's personal physician) and Hubert Bessey. Cleveland visited Stuart annually between 1900 and 1908 to enjoy the fishing. -

Broster Kitching's rooming house (the Stuart House) and Stuart Post Office with a banner on the front: "Don't Fail to See the Wonderful Moving Pictures. Life size & life like. And hear the great HISTORICAL LECTURES and popular songs of the day. Illustrated with hand colored views. Prow Bros & Co. ToNight." The Prow Brothers presented "life-motion animated pictures produced by the cinematograph" in Tallahassee in 1901. -
