  • View of Grant Plaza from parking lot. Large building on the far right is the 53,000 sq. ft. Grant Department Store. The shopping center opened in February of 1972 at the corner of US 1 & Monterey Road and in 1976 became part of Stuart Square Shopping Center.

    Photograph commissioned by local realtor, Harry Lyons, who along with his real estate partners established the River Forest Land Syndicate, which began selling parcels of land near the South Fork of the St. Lucie River in 1926.

  • Group of Jensen community members signed a petition to form a community church. Petition reads "Nov. 26th, 1932. We the undersigned people of the town of Jensen, Fla., being very much interested in the welfare of the Community, believe that it would be a great advantage to have a Community Church Organization formed. We also request that the Rev. H. H. Jones continue to be our pastor."
  • Stanley Smith picks flowers at his flower farm in the Eldorado Heights area. Grow lights positioned above the flower beds. The development of artificial lighting was an important part of the flower growing industry boom that occurred here in Martin County during the 1950s and '60s as artificial lights played a role in both stimulating and controlling flower growth.   • People gathered for a picnic lunch and treasure hunt event on "Treasure Island," (in Halpatiokee Regional Park in 2026) part of the newly established River Forest real estate development near Stuart. A treasure hunt event and lunch was held on 13 March 1926 to advertise the property.
