Fire at freight depot, 1933
A fire broke out at the FEC freight depot in Stuart on Monday, July 10, 1933. The fire was accelerated and made harder to extinguish because flammable building materials for the St. Lucie River (Roosevelt) Bridge were being stored at the depot. The fire also led to delays in the bridge's construction. The cause of the fire was never determined. -
Parade on Flagler Avenue, 1925
In celebration of the 1925 establishment of Martin County, the town of Stuart hosted a series of events on 28 and 29 January 1926, including a large parade. This image, shows two Black men with instruments and is marked "The Colored Band." Also, men on horseback and a cart pass by Rue's Sweet Shop (decorated with bunting), Moore & Hartman Groceries & Meats, and the new Lyric Theatre under construction.

Portrait painting of Stuart area pioneers, Robert and Marcia McPherson, who came to the area in 1891 to start a pineapple plantation.
Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, Stuart on the St. Lucie (p. 103) with the caption: "Scotsman Robert McPherson left Douglas, Nebraska, and settled on the St. Lucie River with his wife and younger children in 1891. In 1897 their son Charles and his family, and his married daughter Katie Witham and her family joined them. This portrait of Robert and Marcia McPherson was originally made for a Florida East Coast Railway pass." -

Buildings in downtown Jensen before the 3 May 1908 fire, which destroyed most buildings in the town, including stores, warehouses, and train depot. James Neal General Merchandise in view on left and the Jensen Trading Co. is on the right (immediately behind the railroad tracks). The Jensen post office located next to the Trading Co. building.
