Portrait painting of Stuart area pioneers, Robert and Marcia McPherson, who came to the area in 1891 to start a pineapple plantation.
Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, Stuart on the St. Lucie (p. 103) with the caption: "Scotsman Robert McPherson left Douglas, Nebraska, and settled on the St. Lucie River with his wife and younger children in 1891. In 1897 their son Charles and his family, and his married daughter Katie Witham and her family joined them. This portrait of Robert and Marcia McPherson was originally made for a Florida East Coast Railway pass."
Portrait of Joseph "J. J." Pitchford, the Jensen Beach pioneer who established Pitchford’s Camp in the 1920s. Photograph taken at the House of Refuge, on the museum's official opening, held January 14 and 15, 1956. Published in the Stuart News (19 Jan 1956) with a caption reading "Museum recalls much to pioneer. J. J. Pitchford, pioneer resident of Jensen Beach for more than 60 years, looks right at home in this pose among furnishings of half of century ago in a room at the historical museum. The many items on display there recalled for Pitchford many memories of life here at the turn of the century."
