Jensen Beach Bridge reopening ceremony, 1949
Deputy Sheriff Reuben Sharp, Anne Langford, Florida Senator Evans Crary, Sr.. George Keith and Commissioner R. R. Tilton pose on the Jensen Beach Bridge for a reopening ceremony sponsored by the Jensen Beach Business Men's Association. The bridge had to be closed due to damage from the August 1949 hurricane.
According to a Stuart News article about the bridge ceremony, penned by Zola C. Swarthout (15 Dec 1949), the quintet seen here participated in a make-shift ribbon cutting ceremony as follows "...[they] lifted aside the tied Calcutta fishing poles which had been supplied as a barrier to the entrance of the bridge in lieu of the customary ribbon, and the group split up into the five official cars and started across the bridge, paced by Mrs. (Laura) Christian (Bridge tender) and (Harry) Blotner (assistant tender) on their motor scooter."

Martin County Court House Cultural Center, 2005
Built in 1908 as the Stuart School, the building was then used as the Martin County Courthouse between 1925 and 1937, at which time an addition was made to the front of the building using WPA funds. In 1997, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places; in 2026, it is the Court House Cultural Center & Gallery. -
Officer Fred Walton, c. 1936
Portrait of Fred Walton. Frederick James Walton (1907-1987) graduated from Stuart High School in 1928, a star athlete. In 1936 he became a patrolman in the City of Stuart and became the Chief of Police from 1940-1941.
