Hancock family, c. 1929
Judge John C. Hancock, wife Mamie Hancock, son Fred Hancock and his wife Billie Hancock.
The older Hancocks arrived in Stuart in 1902, living on Atlanta Avenue, then removed to Jacksonville for their son's schooling before returning to Stuart before 1913. John C. Hancock was a justice of the peace, pineapple farmer, and opened Hancock Insurance Agency. The Hancock family were instrumental in establishing the Lyric Theatre. Mamie Hancock played piano there and also gave music lessons.Tags Judges -

Dr. Walter Eugene Oden (1935-2010) was a 1952 graduate of Stuart Training School, math teacher, guidance counselor, and acting principal at Murray Senior High School in Port Salerno and principal of Jann Mann Alternative School and Brownsville Junior High School in Miami. He was also a DJ of a popular program on WSTU. Published in the Stuart News (1 July 1981). -

Marine pilot Ransom Tilton, c. 1942
Ransom Ricou Tilton (1924-1995) wearing a flight helmet and a badge labeled "R.R. Tilton, 2nd Lt. USMCR." Tilton was a member of the "Black Sheep Squadron" during WWII, and a Martin County commissioner (1948-1950). He also served in the Korean War and owned the family real estate business in Jensen.
