Little Dixie Inn & Cafeteria, Krueger Building, 1925
The Krueger Building, on Old Dixie Highway between 2nd Street (Joan Jefferson Way in 2024) and California Avenue, was built by Albert Paul "Bert" Krueger and completed in January 1925; the building was demolished in 1993. Sheriff Bob Crowder at desk, 1972

Robert Lewis Crowder (b. 1945) moved to Jensen Beach in 1956 with his family. He graduated from Martin County High School in 1963 and then began working at the Sheriff's Department as dispatcher and later jailer, while earning a degree from IRSC. Working at the Stuart Police Department, he worked his way up from patrolman to detective by 1971. From May 1972 to 1 January 1973, Crowder served as sheriff when Sheriff Baker was suspended by the governor. He was unsuccessful in his bid for sheriff in the 1972 election (winner James Holt served for the next 20 years) and then worked as chief of security, salesman, then chief of detectives in the Martin County Sheriff's office, and then undersheriff in St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. Crowder was elected sheriff of Martin County in 1993 and served until 2012, when he ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Representative.
