W.C. Simmons (left) and Ernest Lyons wait for the ferry, noted as being midway between Stuart and Lake Okeechobee on a St. Lucie control canal, which operated while the canal was being constructed. Photo taken 4 Jan 1923.

One of a series of photographs made by Florida Photographic Concern (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) for the Stuart Commercial Club and presented to the U.S. government engineers as evidence to the need for government aid for a deep water port in Stuart, Fla.
