Stuart House on Dixie Highway, c. 1917
Caption reads "'Stuart House' on Dixie Highway - Stuart, Fla." Broster Kitching built the Stuart House around 1891 and it offered lodging for early travelers to the area. In 1916, the structure underwent renovation and expansion and was renamed the Stuart Hotel.
Postcard addressed to Miss Hilda Atwood in Morgantown, West Virginia. Postmarked in Stuart on January 28, 1917. Message on postcard reads "Jan 28, '17 Dear Hilda: - Expect to start home in two or three days. Papa." Postcard sent by long time winter resident of Stuart, Horace Atwood (1868-1950) to his daughter Hilda, who was around five years old at the time. Poor condition. -
