Title
St. Joseph's Church before demolition, 1963
Subject
Description
St. Joseph's Catholic Church before being torn down after a fire took place there in 1960. The original church building, built in 1916, was replaced by this structure in 1947. This second structure was originally a chapel at Camp Murphy, no longer in use after the end of World War II. The parish purchased and moved it via a barge down the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers to east Ocean Boulevard. After the fire, a new church was built on the grounds nearby and it was dedicated by the bishop in July of 1961.
