Description
Two men stand at a sales counter with a pile of men's collared shirts at Stuart Department Store. The two men are identified as the owners of the store, Irving Kanarek (left) and Max Auerbach (right). Irving Kanarek also served as the mayor of Stuart in 1954. The expanded Stuart Department store opened in the downtown area in 1954 with entrances on both Flagler and St. Lucie avenues. The Stuart Department store was closed in 1984, after more than 30 years in business.
