Description

"Johnson" Two men amid trees slashed to prep for sap harvesting. Johnston and McNeil operated a turpentine camp 16 miles south of Stuart, also called "naval stores." The process included "bleeding" the longleaf pine trees before cutting them down to produce resin.

Presented by the Stuart Commercial Club to the United States Government Engineers at a public hearing (16 Jan 1923) in Stuart, Florida as part of a report requesting aid for a deep water harbor.
