Published in the Stuart News (3 March 1949) with the rubric "Ten Girls Competing for 'Miss Music of 1949' in Band Drive." Sponsored by the Stuart Jaycee-Ettes, the Miss Music contest (c. 1949-1950) included young women, each sponsored by a local organization or business, who raised funds for the benefit of the Martin County High School band's spring trip to a state contest. The public "voted" by donating a penny for each vote.
