Description

Head shot photo of Vaughn Monroe. Monroe was a famous singer and big band leader that gained major commercial success and popularity during the 1940s and 1950s. His biggest hit song was "Racing to the Moon" recorded in 1941. Vaughn Monroe was also a radio and television performer and acted in a few movies including Singing Guns and Toughest Man in Arizona. Monroe and his wife, Marian, moved to the Stuart area in the 1960s and became active members of the community. Marian Monroe was a volunteer at Martin Memorial Hospital and served on its board and Vaughn hosted or performed at several of the annual Martin Memorial Hospital balls. Vaughn Monroe is buried at Fernhill Cemetery in Stuart.
