Title
Virginia Forrest, 1973
Description
Virginia Forrest sits on a porch railing with an unidentified building visible in the background. Virginia was an avid environmental and conservation advocate known nationwide for initiating a campaign to save the American bald eagle from extinction. Forrest split her time between her winter home in Stuart, Florida and Pennsylvania. She is remembered locally for creating the Martin County Conservation Alliance and for her work to protect Florida's wetlands. She was the first woman to be awarded the Florida governor’s conservation award and the Florida Audubon Society named her the Bald Eagle Person of the Year in 1976. Virginia Forrest Beach located on Hutchinson Island was named in her honor.
