Item

Title

Louis McFarlan with another man in a tree, c. 1905

Description

Two men with a tree. Louis Cass McFarlan is seated among the branches. Another man leans against the tree - this may be Robert McFarlan.

William Dowling McFarlan Jr. (1836-1925), brother Robert M. McFarlan (1843–1914), and cousin Louis Cass McFarlan (1850-1913) and his wife Lorena Maule McFarlan (1873-1962) and young son were regular winter visitors to Stuart from their home in Pennsylvania, between 1895 through about 1910. Both William, a retired merchant, and Louis, a cloth merchant, purchased several properties in Stuart between 1904 and 1907. William first wintered in Rockledge, Florida, but found the fishing in Stuart to be superior.
