Description

Portrait of Stuart police officer, Leroy Washington (1927-2015), seated in a photography studio with lighting and other photo equipment around him. Washington was one of the first two black officers (along with James Hall) appointed to the Stuart police force in 1956. Washington became the first black Captain of the Stuart police department and was later promoted to Deputy Chief of Police.
