Description
Crowd of adults and children on the Jensen Beach Bridge. The children are taking part in the "Negro Fishing Rodeo" which was a fishing contest for prizes held for children aged four to sixteen. Includes Florence Mackey, Alice Albritton, Mildred Gipson in dark dress, and Edith Dehart in sunglasses.
The "Fishing Rodeo" was held annually from 1954 to 1967; the event was segregated and the event opened to Black children was called the "Negro Fishing Rodeo" until about 1957. In 1968, it was replaced by a county wide "Kiddie Field Day."
