Description

Felix Williams stands under the arch and in front of the pulpit at old St. Paul's AME Church. Felix Williams taught agriculture and science at several schools, including the Stuart Training School. He became the principal for East Stuart Elementary and was later promoted to the director of exceptional student education for Martin County. Williams was awarded "Teacher of the Year" for the State of Florida in 1957 and was the first African American to run for Stuart City Council in 1963. In 1994, Felix A. Williams Elementary School was opened in Jensen Beach, named in his honor.
