Bank of Stuart, c. 1912

Item

Title

Bank of Stuart, c. 1912

Description

Building, at the corner of St. Lucie Avenue and Osceola Street, was Bank of Stuart between 1912 and 1922 (the Bank then moved across the street into the Osceola Building). The Feroe building was built next door in 1913. From 1923 to 1929, it was the Seminole Bank. After that bank failed, the Citizen's Bank of Stuart moved in, in 1933 until 1938.

Published in the Stuart News, 25th Historical Edition (9 Nov 1950) with the caption "'Bank with the Bank of Stuart' was the slogan of Stuart's first bank built in 1912, long before the streets were paved. With a capital stock of $15,000 the bank was organized in the summer of 1912 and opened for business in this fine new building (the present city hall) in November. Walter Kitching was president; C.C. Chillingsworth, vice-president; A.R. Wallace, cashier; George W. Parks, Stanley Kitching, and E.A. Fuge, directors. Harry C. Feroe donated the lot for the building and S.A. Mathews was the contractor."
