Description
Photograph published in Gilbert's Bar House Of Refuge - Home Of History by Sandra Henderson Thurlow and Deanna Wintercorn Thurlow (p. 72) with the caption "Ross Witham's life changed one day in 1956 when he was walking on the beach south of the House of Refuge as therapy for a knee injury sustained during WWII. He came across a baby loggerhead turtle entangled in seaweed. The incident inspired a career in marine biology with particular emphasis on sea turtles. This photograph taken by Ed Glucker in the early 1960s, shows Ross with a turtle hatched from an egg incubated at the House of Refuge Museum."
