Item

Title

Tom Schreckengost with large boar and rifle, 1955

Description

Storefront of Stuart Paint & Supply with a taxidermy boar outside of the store. Man with racoon hat and rifle poses next to the boar. Published in the Stuart News (6 Oct 1955) with the caption: "This giant North Korean boar (left) was found by a Stuart News reporter on display in a window of the Stuart Paint and Supply on Osceola Ave. The stuffed beast measured 3 1/2 ft. tall, 6 1/2 ft. long. Genial Tom Schreckengost, known to poor spellers as "Shreck" and to the uninformed as "Modest Tom," grabbed the pig, a rifle and coonskin cap and hammed-up the scene above on the sidewalk in front of (naturally) Stuart Paint and Supply, Inc."
