Description

Studio portrait of Dr. Walter R. Stokes. Known for his significant environmental and conservation efforts in Martin County, Stokes helped found the Jensen Beach Environmental Studies Center and the "Dr. Walter Stokes Beach" in Stuart was named in his honor. Stokes earned a degree in law, contributed to the field of medicine as a physician and worked as an educator in various studies. He won a gold medal at the 1924 Olympics for rifle marksmanship.
