Description
A Memorial Day parade was held in downtown Stuart, organized by the American Legion of Stuart, Harold Johns Post No. 62. According to the Stuart News (26 May 1960). The parade started on Flagler Ave. and paused on the Roosevelt Bridge for memorial flowers to be tossed into the water with a firing squad and while "taps" was performed. The parade continued down S. Albany to W. Ocean Blvd. and was ended at the Sailfish ballpark where a barbecue supper was served. The man in military uniform may be the parade marshal, Colonel G. V. Sottong.Police Chief Jesse Taylor (middle), and Sheriff Roy Baker (right) walk behind the man in the lead.
