Pipe fills beach with sand, 1963

Item

Title

Pipe fills beach with sand, 1963

Description

A pipe spews sand onto a beach. Similar photo published in the Miami Herald (7 Feb 1963) with the caption "Pipelines strung across Jupiter Island take dredged-up fill from the Intracoastal Waterway and carry it to eroded ocean beaches in attempts to nourish them back to life. More than 60,000 cubic yards have been dumped on washed out beaches in recent weeks. After a few tides, the black dirt in the fill is washed away, leaving behind white sand."
