Title
Hupfel Family portrait, 1968
Subject
Description
Hupfel Family portrait. Man seated with a child on his lap is likely Otto Hupfel (1882-1969), who was the first to grow lilies in Martin County and owned a flower farm in Palm City, beginning in the mid-1940s. With the help of his son Richard, H &H Lily Growers became the largest lily growing business in the country by the 1960s. The man on the right is likely Otto's other son, Walter Mott Hupfel (1908-1978), who also worked in the family business and later started his own flower farm on Monterey Road. The individual on the left may be Walter’s son, Walter Mott Hupfel Jr. (1934-2012).
