Hellier] inspect one of the holes dug for dumping of trash. When it is filled to a given level it will be covered over and graded and dumpings will shift to another of the series of holes that may be seen in the background."
  • Commissioner Charles Leighton (left) surveys the newly revamped public landfill on SR 76 in Indiantown with the county road superintendent, T. R. Hellier. Published in the Stuart News (28 Jan 1954). According to the newspaper, Martin County took over operation of the city landfill in October of 1953 and made changes to improve the overall look and sanitation of the dump.
