The Lucas family had the lumber for the house pre-cut in Baltimore and transported to the Eden area via ship. They named the property after the town of Ruxton, Maryland, where they hailed from. The Lucas family began growing pineapples, but it was after Helen and Nathan Saunders purchased the plantation in 1899 that it became one of the largest and most successful pineapple farms in the area. The plantation was later sold to Charles Edason. Louis Bell Edason inherited the property after his parents died.
