Image published in book by Harold D. Cardwell, Sr. entitled Port Orange: A Great Community. Caption with image in the book reads "The Hat Factory on Dunlawton Avenue, late 1890s. Hats were made from palmetto fronds that were cured and woven by the hands of workers. This technique was an art form inherited by Floridians from the early Seminoles. These palmetto hats were very fashionable during this period and were especially popular with tourists. -
