Utility vehicle parked in a wooded area. According to several articles in the Stuart News, this and other similar vehicles were referred to locally as "woods buggies" during their heyday from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. Many of these vehicles were converted trucks or older automobiles, like the Ford Model A. -

James "Jim" Pomeroy stands next to a hunting vehicle with Harry Dyer (top left) and Guy Boyd seated on top of it. According to Ernest Lyons in one of his Stuart News columns (3 Dec 1959): "Martin County's woods buggies range from cut down Model A's to converted trucks. All have two things in common: the ability to plow through water up to the floor boards without getting drowned out and oversized tires which will carry them down much pond edges and over palmetto roots. The really ornate and elaborate ones are a cabinet-maker's dream, with cupboards and compartments to hold everything from salt and pepper shakers to a spot of snake-bite remedy, have bunks, grocery, drug and medical supply sections, plus a cage for the bird dogs or hounds." -

Utility vehicle or woods buggy with chairs on the roof. Vehicle used for hunting excursions and looks to be an older car converted into an all-terrain vehicle by removing the original cabin panels and adding storage boxes to the exterior. -
