Nat Reed, 1977
Nathaniel Pryor Reed (1934-2018) of Hobe Sound, and family. Reed served in many federal and state positions associated with the environment and conservation over his career, including the Chairman of the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Commission. He also made significant contributions to private environmental organizations, including helping to found the Everglades Foundation and 1000 Friends of Florida, and serving on the boards of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, National Geographic Society, and Everglades Foundation. This group of 32 Navy fliers and Grumman Aircraft & Engineering Corp. personnel with planes in background was pictured at Witham Field recently. Commander Wilcox Howell, U.S.N., seventh from left, Commanding Officer of Anti-Submarine Squadron US-30, visited the local airport Aug. 12 through Aug. 14. The purpose of the Navy visit was to receive indoctrination from Grumman personnel on the maintenance of the electronics systems in their aircraft." -

Officer Fred Walton, c. 1936
Portrait of Fred Walton. Frederick James Walton (1907-1987) graduated from Stuart High School in 1928, a star athlete. In 1936 he became a patrolman in the City of Stuart and became the Chief of Police from 1940-1941. -

Ken McLemore and Stephen Fowler stand on the porch at the House of Refuge. McLemore worked as the project manager for Timbergate Builders, which completed a renovation project at the lifesaving station in 1998. Fowler also worked on the renovation project as a carpenter.
