  • Charles Frederick Hancock (1894-1983) was a photographer and proprietor of the Stuart Camera Shop (1914-1921), manager of the Lyric Theatre, and owned the City News Stand on Osceola Avenue.

  • Portrait of Fred Walton. Frederick James Walton (1907-1987) graduated from Stuart High School in 1928, a star athlete. In 1936 he became a patrolman in the City of Stuart and in January 1940 became the Chief of Police. After taking a leave of absence from the position for the summer and fall of 1941, he was replaced in December. He was the Stuart Fire Chief from November 1942 to May 1943 when he asked for a leave of absence. From 1960 to 1970 he was the superintendent of the city water department. Fred and Rose Kremer Roebuck Walton (1920-2007) married on 10 Sept 1939 and they had four children.

  • Sisters Vermelle (bottom) and Hannah Fulton pose together next to a boat dock. According to a note on the back of the photograph, Hannah was 13 years old at the time, which would make Vermelle around 21 years old. Both sisters were long time Palm City residents. Vermelle started her career as a Palm City nursery schoolteacher and later took over the duties of the Palm City postmaster from the girls' mother, Ailene Fulton, who, according to the Stuart News (15 Sep 1985), served as the first postmistress in the country, starting in 1929.
  • Concrete bridge built in 1923 over the south fork of the St. Lucie River on what was the Stuart-Annie Road, then Gaines Highway. The Gaines Highway Bridge is open only to pedestrians in 2026. Also known as the Humpback Bridge.

    Photograph commissioned by local realtor, Harry Lyons, who along with his real estate partners Scott Atkin and Don Innes, formed a committee to plan the Martin County birthday festival, held in January 1926.

  • Crowd of people mingle at a Martin Memorial Hospital event. Man second from right in foreground identified as Chuck Cleaver. Cleaver worked in the financial department for the Martin Memorial Healthcare system for many years, including serving as assistant vice president, vice president, and eventually president of finance. Low quality scan.

  • Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, US Life-saving Service, with the caption: "George Quarterman stands in front of the former Chester Shoal House of Refuge when it was US Coast Guard Station No. 204. He took charge after his uncle Orlando Quarterman's retirement. Orlando was the only keeper of Chester Shoal House of Refuge. Both he and George's father, William George Quarterman, married sisters who were the daughters of Mills Olcott Burnham, keeper of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse."

The open veranda on the second floor was enclosed in 1910. Also visible is the railroad crossing and "Look out for the cars" signs.
