"Turpentine still and turpentine ready to ship in barrels, 52 gals, each, worth SIXTY-FIVE DOLLARS A BARREL, at Johnston & McNeil's Camp, Near Stuart. All Such freight would leave Stuart, as Soon as Canal Is Completed for Use."

"Johnson" Two men amid trees slashed to prep for sap harvesting. Johnston and McNeil operated a turpentine camp 16 miles south of Stuart, also called "naval stores." The process included "bleeding" the longleaf pine trees before cutting them down to produce resin.
