No. 1 and the beautiful St. Lucie River at Stuart, Florida/ Up to date tourist accommodations at reasonable prices." Postmarked in Kinzua, Pennsylvania on December 8th but year is illegible. Postcard sent to Mrs. Agnes Powell in Erie, Pennsylvania from "Edna & Roy." -

Rice Hotel & Restaurant, Stuart, Florida, c. 1950
Postcard created from a Ruhnke photo of the Rice Hotel and Restaurant. The Restaurant advertised that "It's Never Too Late For Breakfast." The building, previously the Rob Roy Hotel owned by the Roebuck family, was purchased by William H. Rice in 1945. Rice remodeled then operated the establishment, including a market on the first floor of the building (opened in 1949) and a nearby service station until 1956 when he sold it to Don A. O'Kelley and James L. Scannell who changed the name to "The Coffee House." The caption on the backside of the postcard is not legible. Poor condition. -

Front caption reads "They Catch Big Ones at Pitchford's Jensen Beach, Florida." Back caption reads "This fishing camp operated by the Pitchford's. One of the first to be established in Jensen Beach. Has 24 cottages, apartments, good trailer facilities, private dock, plenty boats. Accommodations are modern and well kept. Camp is located at the famous mile long free fishing bridge. Rates reasonable year round." -
