This Schenectady engine built the road along Key Largo to Long Key. Then it was barged to Marathon to continue the road from Key Vaca. By contrast, heavy mountain types like 813 hauled freight on the 'overseas' during its last prohibition and depression years. Rambler railroad car, c. 1965
Interior and exterior views of the Rambler train car. Caption: "Flagler's 'Overseas Railroad' was finished for his 83rd birthday, January 22, 1912. He came for the opening celebrations in his private car, Rambler, at the rear of the Extension Special, the first Miami-Key West train. The yellow and brown wooden car was built in 1886 by Jackson & Sharp. With its private stateroom and lavatory, its copper-lined shower, open-berth guest quarters and small but well-equipped kitchen, Rambler symbolized with luxury of Flagler's empire.
