Oversized pumpkins on cart, 1908
Three men pose next to exaggerated sized pumpkins on a horse drawn cart.
Copyright statement in the bottom right corner reads "Copyrighted Photograph 1908 by W. H. Martin, Ottawa, Kan." Photographer William H. "Dad" Martin used photomontage and trick photography to make exaggerated images of fruits and vegetables and started selling them as postcards, thus establishing the exaggeration postcard genre in 1908. His postcards became popular and were often plagiarized. Martin ended up selling the company in 1912 to Williams S. Fallis and William H. Jones who renamed it the North American Post Card Company. -

Gloeckler married Leon E. Ashley in 1913 and the couple moved to Stuart by the mid-1920s. Edna and Leon Ashley were the parents of twins, James and John Ashley and Charles Richard "Dick" Ashley (of the Taylor-Ashley Real Estate and Insurance business in Stuart). -
