  • Two men pose with a large tarpon. Sign next to the fish reads "St. Lucie River Tarpon/ length 6 ft 6 in/ Weight 117 lbs./ Stuart, Fla." Message written on back of postcard asks, "Do you know [?] who caught the fish with Stanley Kitching" and appears to be signed by W. A. Ball.
  • Caption reads "'Stuart House' on Dixie Highway - Stuart, Fla." Broster Kitching built the Stuart House around 1891 and it offered lodging for early travelers to the area. In 1916, the structure underwent renovation and expansion and was renamed the Stuart Hotel.

    Postcard addressed to Miss Hilda Atwood in Morgantown, West Virginia. Postmarked in Stuart on January 28, 1917. Message on postcard reads "Jan 28, '17 Dear Hilda: - Expect to start home in two or three days. Papa." Postcard sent by long time winter resident of Stuart, Horace Atwood (1868-1950) to his daughter Hilda, who was around five years old at the time. Poor condition.
  • A few figures stand on the shore of a waterway. Postcard addressed to Miss Dorothy Atwood in Morgantown, West Virginia. Postmarked in Morgantown, W. Va. on January 19, 1917. Message on postcard reads "Typical river view. All well. Love, Papa." Postcard was sent by long time winter resident of Stuart, Horace Atwood (1868-1950) to his daughter Dorothy, who was around 16 years old at the time.
  • The Al Fresco Hotel in Jensen. John Lawrence Jensen built the Al Fresco Hotel in the late 1890s. It was the first hotel south of St. Augustine and was a part of Jensen's vision to create a community that would attract settlers to the area. The hotel burned down before 1935 (according to the obituary for one of its later owners, John Thomas Stanley, published in the Stuart News 15 Jan 1935).
