Subject
Description
View of the interior damage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stuart, after a fire broke out in February of 1960. The original church building, built in 1916, was replaced by this structure in 1947. This second structure was originally a chapel at Camp Murphy, no longer in use after the end of World War II. The parish purchased and moved it via a barge down the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers to East Ocean Boulevard. After the fire, a new church was built on the grounds nearby and it was dedicated by the bishop in July of 1961.
